COMPANY DATA LICENSING / PRACTICAL FIELD NOTES

From a promising conversation to an actual payment

The distinct milestones between a data opportunity, a signed license, an accepted delivery and collected money.

Interest is encouraging, but it is not a completed deal. Keep the supplier's agreement and payment separate from any referral compensation. Knowing the next evidence needed at each step prevents an introduction from being mistaken for revenue.

Initial fit.

Establish the company, owner, record categories, approximate history and a plausible buyer route. A preliminary review can conclude that it is better to stop.

Permission and disclosure.

Before sharing an identity or information with a buyer, agree the named buyer and information scope. Explain any intermediary compensation and relevant relationship. Initial review consent is not permission for every later step.

Official application and attribution.

Follow the buyer's actual process. For example, micro1 requires the company to register through the referrer's unique link; independent or previously attributed registration cannot be retrospectively reassigned. Companies complete their own applications. Do not apply simply to test a portal.

Buyer evaluation and written agreement.

The buyer decides whether the data fits and proposes terms. Review scope, rights, price, acceptance, delivery and security arrangements before deciding. No intermediary can promise that the buyer will proceed.

Authorized delivery and acceptance.

Use the agreed private route. A signature does not prove a compliant or accepted delivery. Retain the buyer's actual acceptance and any outstanding conditions.

Payment and reconciliation.

Record when the supplier is paid and, separately, when any referral fee is approved and received. An expected amount or invoice is not cleared cash.

Timelines require care.

Published buyer timelines can describe different stages and are not interchangeable. Mercor's public supplier page describes a typical two-to-four-week period from signed agreement to supplier payment, dependent on processing. That is not a promise of a referral payment on that schedule. Obtain the current written milestones for the actual opportunity.

Why an opportunity may stop.

Prior buyer registration, missing rights, poor-fit records, unexpected exclusions, an incomplete manifest or unaccepted delivery can all change the next step. Record the reason and decide whether resolving it is worthwhile. There is no obligation to force a deal.
